Fall will be upon us soon and most of us forget about our lawns as the growing season winds down. This time of year we tend to turn our attention to other important tasks. Football, bonfires and back to school for the kids, Just to name a few. Well when these warm-season grasses begin slowing down as the temperatures decrease, there are however, a couple of things your lawn needs before it goes into dormancy.
Grasses such as St. Augustine, Bermuda & Zoysia, realy like a high potassium fertilizer with a pre-emergent herbicide. The potassium helps prepare these grasses for cooler weather while the pre-emergent herbicide will prevent winter annual weeds from germinating.
Pre-emergent herbicides are the easiest way to manage unwanted weeds in your lawn. Many people fight unwanted weeds in the spring time of the year. Often, if they had used a pre-emergent herbicide in the fall, they could have prevented the weeds that are maturing in spring. Once weeds have had a chance to mature, eradicating them becomes much more difficult.
Well, that was my 2 cents worth.
