Gravely Zero Turn Lawn Mowers. What’s in a name…?

I’ve had a few old timers come into my dealership lately asking about the “return of gravely mowers” back onto the market. So I did a little investigating to see if the old company was still around and what they may have to offer.

Let’s start with a little background…

The Gravely Motor Plow Company was founded in 1916 in Dunbar, West Virginia building a line of two-wheel walking tractors.  in 1964, Gravely entered the four-wheel garden tractor market. Gravelys used a unique rear-engine design on their tractors. They were bought out by Ariens back in 1982, and they still own the rights to the brand.

NOW, here is where it gets complicated…

“Ariens mowers are made by Husqvarna..which is owned by Ariens”

[Ariens Lawn Mowers are made by Husqvarna Outdoor Products, which is owned by Ariens Company. The largest retailer of Ariens Lawn Mowers is The Home Depot,

Now it seems that we may have 3 different names on the same machine?

Lets compare.

Gravely ZT-X

915172 42″ KOHLER® 7000 Series V-Twin HD w/Smart 24 HP/725 CC Hydro-Gear® EZT Transaxles 2.8 gal (10.59 L) 7/3 mph

Ariens IKON X

915220 42″

KOHLER® 7000 Series V-Twin HD w/Smart

24 HP/725 CC Hydro-Gear® EZT Transaxles 2.8 gal (10.59 L) 7/3 mph

Husqvarna Z242F

9678447 42″ KOHLER® ZT730 Series V-Twin HD w/Smart 23 HP/725 CC Hydro-Gear® EZT Transaxles 2.8 gal (10.59 L) 7/3 mph

So…after looking at the specs of these mowers, it does appear that all 3 machines are nearly identical.    So, now you have the upper hand when you go mower shopping. After all why pay more for a different label on the same mower?

Thanks for reading!
